KSU Sends Off Senior Class
Sunday’s game was not only the last game of the season. It was also the last game for the best senior class in program history. The group composed of Casey Newton, Justin Griffith, Spencer Hiett, Kyle Teasdale, and Tom Mudrak; leave the program having led the team to its only three SELC Tournament appearances and two SELC southwest division championships.
Over the last four years, the Owls overall record is 37 - 24. Against southwest division opponents the record stands at 14 - 3. In the three year span before 2010, the Owls overall record stood at 19 - 18 with a divisional record was 7 - 7.
Casey Newton leaves the team being named Honorable Mention All-SELC Midfield in 2012. Justin Griffith was also named Honorable Mention All-SELC LSM in 2012. Tom Mudrak is a four time All-SELC Defender and Honorable Mention MCLA All-American in 2010.
The group oversaw the end the Ken Byers era and ushered in the Anthony Grizanti regime. These seniors also brought in the Owls Nest era, playing every home game on the only pure lacrosse field in the state of Georgia.
The last two seasons were especially momentous in the growth of the program. The team was featured three times on LaxTV broadcasts, the premier online source for college lacrosse. They also played in front of 521 fans against Georgia Tech, a program attendance record.
This group made tremendous outreach efforts in the four year span. Since 2010, the KSU Owls have hosted dozens of clinics and this year introduced the Halftime Youth Mini-Game Program.
