Owls Dominate in Charleston

February 20, 2007

Over the weekend, the KSU Owls went on an excursion to historic Charleston, SC.  The Owls first took on the Citadel Bulldogs on Saturday.  The Owls performed at an extremely high level.  They dominated the “lords of discipline,” 16-2, showing off a lot of offensive fire power. This was the Owls second conference victory in as many tries this season.  The offense was lead by the wizard JD Douthit with 6 goals and 1 assists.  Ian Lehrer scored 2 goals and had 1 assist.  Robert Witt came through with 5 goals and 1 assist.  Charlie Roland and Tim Minick each had a goal.  While Craig Holman switched to the offensive side of the field and scored a goal and earned 3 assists.  Kyle Hansen was an animal in the cage with 7 saves on 9 shots.

On Sunday the Owls defeated SELC affiliate Coastal Carolina 11-2 on the Summerall Parade grounds on the historic Citadel campus. A running clock was used with a thin Coastal Carolina squad.  The defense was solid, and the offense was on fire.  JD Douthit scored 3 goals and had 4 assists, followed by Ian Lehrer with 3 goals and 2 assists.  Robert Witt had 2 goals and 1 assist.  Charlie Roland, Justin Ferna, and Craig Holman each had a goal.  Kyle Hansen came through with 8 saves on only 10 shots.

The Owls look forward to this upcoming Saturday when they face the high flying Emory Eagles.  This game features the two top teams in the region and the two of the highest scoring offenses in the nation.  This is a very important game for the Owls because a win over the Eagles would put the Owl’s into first place in the SELC standings.  All the action goes down at 3pm at the Eagles nest on Emory Campus.
