Owls go 2-0 in the opening weekend … get ready for Alabama

February 02, 2007

The Kennesaw State Owls opened up their season with a game against the UTC Mocs. This game served as a good tune up for KSU. The offense was led by JD Douithit with 3 goals and 2 assists. Two goals were scored by Time Minick, Alex Drake, and Sean Barsin who also had an assist. Tanner Bruton had 1 goal and 1 assist. Goals were also scored by Ian Lehrer, Wes Bass, Charlie Roland, Justin Ferna, Robert Witt, and Craig Holman. The goalies Kyle Hansen and Wes Bass were brick walls in the cage. Hansen had 4 saves on 5 shots, and Bass had 5 saves on 7 shots. The defense was tight only allowing 12 shots on cage. The game against UTC put the Owls in the right state of mind to take on the MTSU Blue Raiders.

On Sunday the Owls played the MTSU Blue Raiders at home. The game started off neck and neck, and after the third quarter the score was tied 8-8. One problem both teams faced was penalty time. The Owls had 15 penalties accounting for nearly a quarter in the penalty box. Luckily, the Blue Raiders received two stick penalties, which partly contributed to the Owl’s success. The Owls won 12-10. Leading the offensive unit was Robert Witt, with 4 goals and 1 assist, and JD Douithit with 3 goals and 1 assist. 2 goals were scored by Ian Lehrer. Craig Holman had 1 goal and 1 assist, Tim Minick and Sean Barson both had a goal a piece. Tanner Bruton had 2 assists. Kyle Hansen saved 9 out of the 15 shots. The real test for the Owls will be this weekend when the play Alabama. Alabama is KSU’s first conference game. As a team our goal is to make the playoffs and beating Alabama is the first step in that direction.
